義大焦點 IN FOCUS WEEK 7

01I-Shou’s School Anniversary Celebration Returns Tomorrow, Saturday, October 15

Following weeks of planning and preparation, we look forward to the return of our annual School Anniversary Celebration tomorrow, Saturday, October 15 (8:00 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.)

Please join us as we celebrate our school's 18th birthday with a variety of fun activities and House competitions that will follow our Opening Ceremony.

We hope to see everyone tomorrow morning on our main campus!

02Developing Thinking Skills in I-Shou International Preschool

Young learners thrive when given the freedom to learn through exploration and trial and error. Recently the K1 class participated in the Tall Tower Challenge. In this activity students were given the choice of four different materials to build a tower as tall as one of their classmates. After considering which material would be the best to work with, students worked on small teams to build their towers.

Students quickly found that they needed to consider the design of their towers carefully in order to meet the required height. Each group learned through failure that their towers needed to have more support at the bottom if they wanted to be strong enough to stand on their own. In the end, all groups were successful due to their thinking and communication skills.

03A Wonderful Week

Primary Department teachers and students have spent a wonderful week together!

Unit one is coming to an end with summative assessments and the curriculum is steadily developing with rich and diverse content, implemented in daily teaching and learning activities including: concept-driven bilingual mathematics, English writing workshops, Chinese reading learning engagements, group and individual social-emotional learning and STEM lessons.

Through inquiry-based teaching, students' curiosity and motivation for learning in various fields of study are activated. Students can fully enjoy the learning process and grow within each valuable experience.

What a successful week!

04International Secondary Department (ISD) Grade 7-8 Student-Led Assembly: “A Friendly Campus”

ISD Grade 7-8 students had the first student-led assembly of the school year. The topic was “A Friendly Campus”. Two Grade 7 student Master of Ceremonies oversaw the assembly, which included participation from Supervisor Shadow about the prevention of drugs and bullying, 8th grade student-produced videos about the prevention of bullying and what makes a friendly campus, and a Kahoot game about I-shou’s friendly campus!

We are already looking forward to next month’s student-led assembly in Lower Secondary, which will focus on Gratitude!

05Term Exam Week in the Secondary Bilingual Department (SBD)

Week 7 is term exam week for all students in the SBD. It’s a great opportunity for students to examine how well they have learned during the past 7 weeks. While students are busy with the exams, teachers in SBD are also busy with professional development.

We used collaborative meeting time to discuss the implementation of New Pedagogies for Deep Learning (NPDL) in the SBD. Teachers from each subject area shared their great ideas in the meeting.
