Making the World a Better Place, One Student at a Time.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
I-Shou International School is a renowned bilingual day/boarding school striving to foster intellectual and personal growth through rigorous inquiry and the development of 21st-century skills; in our collaborative teaching and learning community, we provide multiple pathways for internationally minded learners to fulfil their roles as socially responsible global citizens.
Our guiding principles
I-Shou International School promotes the attitudes and values associated with international mindedness, which influences the actions of the school community. These attitudes and values are expressed through our professional and social relationships, academic curriculum, service learning, leadership opportunities, network connections, sports, the arts and other activities. The I-Shou International School community supports the development of our students into young adults that exhibit international mindedness, demonstrated through their culturally sensitive and globally competent behaviours.
21st Century Skills
I-Shou International School develops 21st Century skills as a central focus of teaching and learning. With the speed of information change and the range of potential future careers expanding rapidly, it is critical that our students know how to learn, work with others and use technology effectively. Students need to be able to collaborate and communicate; think creatively and critically; have information and media literacy; be skilled in ICT; be flexible and adaptable; understand social and cross-cultural interactions; be productive and accountable, and show leadership and responsibility.
Teaching and Learning
I-Shou International school is a community of learners, and this is reflected in our approach to teaching. Teachers support and use a constructivist and collaborative approach to inquiry based teaching and learning. We believe that all students have the capacity for personal and academic growth, and that a positive and reflective approach towards student learning behaviours brings the best outcomes. We organise teaching according to International Baccalaureate and Taiwan MOE standards and practices, share understandings and work together in a collegial manner.
I-Shou International School is a bilingual community. We believe that additive bilingualism is the best practice; that language is fundamental to learning, thinking and communicating, across the whole curriculum. We emphasise that it is necessary not only to learn a language but also learn about language and through language. We believe that learning best takes place in authentic contexts and that literature plays a fundamental role in enabling this to happen. The strands of oral, written and visual communication are learned across and throughout all subject areas. Language learning plays a significant role in our school, as the development of mother tongue language is crucial for cognitive development and maintaining cultural identity.
Learner Profile Attributes
I-Shou International School teachers support the personal and academic growth of our students. Our teachers develop and model the skills related to each attribute. The values and attitudes expressed in these attributes are at the core of all programmes and are the key to developing internationally minded students. Each of these attributes is developed with the support and encouragement of our teachers. With our guidance, our students become inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, courageous, balanced and reflective.
