義大焦點 IN FOCUS WEEK 9

01Final Assessments in the Early Years

It’s that time of the semester when each homeroom will be finishing up their Units of Inquiry. This also means that students will begin being assessed on their growth and learning over the last few weeks.

The K2 students just finished their summative assessment tasks in Math and showed off their new skills that they have gained. Students were tested on their ability to make graphs, tally marks, and patterns. The teachers found fun ways of creating activities for students which connected to their UOI theme of ocean animals. Students needed to visit the K2 Fish Store to create a graph of different kinds of fish, and design octopus legs with paper rings to replicate simple patterns.

Students were not only assessed by their teachers as they monitored their students complete each activity, but students also self-assessed to reflect on which areas they believe are their strengths and weaknesses.

02Grade 5 PYP Exhibition Process

Grade 5 students are currently working on the PYP Exhibition in the IB Primary Years Programme. There are nine groups this year, each choosing a topic to build their inquiry and investigations around. They have completed the tuning in, finding out and sorting out stages of the inquiry cycle with the help of their Teacher Mentors. Each Primary Department teacher meets with their group twice a week to guide and assist students in their inquiry.

We would like to thank parents for their support in their child’s projects. We look forward to this year’s exciting, in person, 5th grade PYP Exhibition!

What an incredible achievement it will be!

03ISD Students Using the New Learning Commons Facilities

ISD Grade 11 English B students are using the new media creation room in the Learning Commons. They are recording podcasts for practice speaking projects, in which they must present a topic as an expert. In preparation for their Individual Oral assessments, it is important that IB Diploma students practice speaking at length about varied topics, and focus on the sound and intonation of their speech.

04Grade 12 Students Share Their Learning Journey at I-Shou

Several G12 students already got acceptance from the universities through the Star Plan in Taiwan. The Secondary Bilingual Department office invited 4 of them to share their learning journey with the younger students during the assembly time. They not only shared the tips of learning well in school but also reflected on the parts that they could do well if there’s another chance.

We hope this sharing session brought some positive influencesto our younger students.

05Grade 3 Chinese Class - Researching the Taiwanese Community

Grade 3 students are working on researching the Taiwanese community in Chinese class which is connected to the theme of UOI unit "How We Organize Ourselves”.

After choosing three topics, they searched and sorted out the information on the website of Taiwan Tourism Information (Children's website), adding the sentence patterns, rhetoric, and idioms learned in class, and wrote some statements on the community research record sheet.
