義大焦點 IN FOCUS Week 8

01School Anniversary Day at the I-Shou International Preschool (ISIP)

Everyone at the ISIP would like to sincerely thank our parents and students for the enthusiastic participation and support of our Anniversary Day which occurred over the weekend. It was really a special day for our students who got to experience a fun day with their friends and families full of different activities.

The morning began with the Opening Ceremonies and a performance by the ISIP students. We are so proud of our students who showed off their hard work and practice through their exciting dance. After this, our community came back to the preschool for some parent/child events organized by our PE team. This was a lot of fun and we could tell students were really excited to spend the day doing outdoor activities with their teachers and family.

At the end of the day parents and children joined the IIS Fun Fair where they had fun games and were selling food and drinks. Thanks again to everyone for coming to this event!

02Provocations in Primary Department

As we begin Unit of Inquiry 2, teachers have planned and organized a wide array of learning provocations to spark wonder and interest for the upcoming unit.

Provocations excite and engage students in learning,  which starts the inquiry process. Students are encouraged to explore and ask questions. Wonder walls are generated with student questions and these questions are explored throughout the unit.

In grade 4, students transform their classroom and learning environment into a highlighted government system, such as Monarchy. This provocation heightens students’ interest in the topic and provides an actual experience with the central idea.

03International Ssecondary Department (ISD) Students Participate at the IBSH Model United Nations Conference

ISD Grade 8 and 9 students participated in the Model United Nations event at the International Bilingual School at Hsinchu Science Park (IBSH). The conference is attended by English-speaking schools from all over Taiwan, from Taipei to Kaohsiung.

At the event each student used their English skills to debate and lobby in order to come up with solutions to current global issues like Sanctioning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. Many of I-Shou students made us proud through their speeches and meaningful contributions to the resolutions that were passed.

04First Robotic Competition (FRC) Team Member Recruitment

Silver Hawks 9126 is recruiting more members. The two mentors, Teacher Jo and Teacher Nancy hosted 3 recruiting information sessions this week introducing this new program to the I-Shou community. Besides the engineering and programming teams, we are also looking for team members for the Business team, who will support promoting Silver Hawks to the world and obtain sponsorship from the community.

We are excited to have some new members for Silver Hawks!
