義大焦點 IN FOCUS Week 8

01Stop, Drop, and Read!

We hope you all had a nice long weekend with your families. This week was only 3 days, but it was BIG on excitement!

We had BIG announcements go out regarding students selected for our Language Talent Show on April 22. It’s been BIG fun engaging in our “Stop, Drop, and Read” literacy month kickoff. We’ve also had our first Literacy Lunchtime readers, Tr. Michael, Tr. Sophia, and Dir. Nick! These lunchtime readings were a BIG hit last year and were brought back by popular demand!

Our students may be small, but that doesn’t stop us from BIG learning together!

02Middle School Highly Engaged in Learning during Short Week

After the four-day weekend that celebrated Children’s Day and Tomb Sweeping Day, the Middle School Department was hard at work across all subject areas as they prepared for their upcoming mid-semester assessments.  We are currently in week 8 and mid-semester assessments are in week 10. Teachers will continue to work with students and support them in preparation for mid-term assessments.

03Week 8 -International Secondary Department- A Short But Busy Week

It was great to chat with the International Secondary Department (ISD) students this week as they returned after the long weekend. Many had found the break to be a wonderful time to relax and refill their energy levels just in time for mid-semester assessments.

Grade 12 students reported more great university offers as students received offers from UC Berkeley and University College London (UCL), two of the world's most prestigious institutions. Grade 11 students have started to refine their Extended Essay (EE) questions as next week they will meet with their EE supervisors for 1:1 meetings.

It’s always a busy week in the ISD!

04Secondary Bilingual Department - Grade 9 Simulation Selection

Nobel Prize winner Herman Hesse said in his famous book "Demian": "We can understand each other, but a person can only really understand themselves."

Tr. Mandy and Tr. Jay are assisting grade 9 students to find their future direction, and let students know themselves better through simulation selection.

05Maker Space Fun

The Maker Space continues to be a hub of activity during lunch times. Here we have a student rocking her latest accessories, another student showing off her latest ice cream concoction, and a third student working on making a shirt from scratch.
