義大焦點 IN FOCUS WEEK 5

01Happy Teacher’s Day to I-Shou Faculty

To commemorate Teacher's Day on Sept. 28, pearl milk tea and green goody snacks (Kuai Kuai) were prepared for all faculty to express our sincere thanks for their hard work and dedication to students.

We wish that our teachers are enriched with fulfillment and smoothness in the teaching process, just like the rich and smooth taste of the pearl milk tea. In addition, differentiation is highly emphasized at I-Shou for each student, and we expect teachers to educate students with a caring heart so that students can grow just like pearls with glory at I-Shou.

The reason why we chose green Kuai Kuai is that teachers can write down their wishes on the package. The color of green represents a “green light” wishing dreams come true. The further meaning of Kuai Kuai stands for everything being safe and smooth.

In the preparatory meeting for School Anniversary Day on Sept. 28, Superintendent Dr. Nanos, Principal Lee and International Headmaster Matt encouraged teachers to get ready for the School Anniversary Day with enthusiasm. Last, wishing all the best to I-Shou Faculty-Happy Teacher’s Day!

02I-Shou International Preschool (ISIP) Inquiry has Begun

It is amazing how quickly time flies each academic year. We are already finishing week 5 of the first semester, and as such our students have been busy digging into their first Units of Inquiry. The beginning of new Units of Inquiry is always an exciting time as students are asking questions and focusing on related topics that are important to them. The first steps of the inquiry cycle give students time to gain new information so they are able to make connections to their own lives.

In the early years it is essential that students feel happy and comfortable in their new home rooms. During these first units each grade level makes authentic connections between their transdisciplinary theme and important rules, structures, and routines of their day. We can already see the progress and growth our young learners have made as they dive deeper into their units!

03Primary Department Fluoride Mouthwash Hygiene Education

Primary Department Co-Directors invited the school nurse to teach students about good oral hygiene and to promote oral health care, including how to use fluoride mouthwash to prevent cavities.

During the presentation, students learned how to brush their teeth properly and how to use mouthwash. Our hope for students is that they can adopt good oral hygiene habits beginning in childhood.

04Fun Learning in Performing Arts Class!

International Secondary Department students in grades 7 and 8 enjoy dynamic learning in Performing Arts class with Teacher Ellie. Students are exploring and practicing how to keep a steady beat using balls. They are also experimenting with different sounds while holding, tapping, and bouncing the balls. Students also use body percussion in class to present creative rhythmic patterns with their bodies.

05Evidence of Learning in the Secondary Bilingual Department (SBD)

Teachers in SBD design various activities allowing students to have meaningful learning experiences in each class. Students are strongly encouraged to work with group members to finish the assigned tasks. They brainstorm, discuss, collaborate and create brilliant work to keep evidence of learning.

You are very welcome to visit the classrooms in the Secondary Bilingual Department and witness their learning evidence. I believe there will be more of them in the near future.

06ViewSonics TVs

As a part of our five year Technology Plan, we have been investing in new classroom technology. Teachers across the school are integrating our new ViewSonics into their lessons. These screens are bigger and brighter which helps students to see materials more clearly. There are also a range of features which make them more interactive and engaging to use. The Education Technology Office is delighted to play a supporting role in teaching and learning across the school.
