義大焦點 IN FOCUS WEEK 4

01Primary Department - Parent Teacher Interviews

The partnership between students, teachers, and parents is critical to the learning success of our PYP students. This week, we celebrated our students’ accomplishments with parents through our virtual Parent Teacher Interviews. These conferences are an important part of reporting achievement to parents and discussing goals and next steps for continued success with their children.

We strive to maintain great communication through a holistic line up of reporting tools, also including, 3-Way Conferences, Sharing of Learning, the Exhibition, and reports.

We had a wonderful time discussing student progress this week, and look forward to continuing these discussions with you!

02Middle School Students Engaged in Math

This week in the Middle School Department, our Grade Seven students engaged in challenging hands-on activities to review and practice their mathematical skills while at the same time using Maker thinking. In particular, the students enjoyed the “Pass the Pigs” activity which provides an opportunity to combine multiple analytical skills sets and decision-making strategies.

Here at I-Shou International  School we are a community of learners, and our teachers support the academic growth of our students using a constructivist, collaborative and inquiry-based approach.

03A Week of Exceptional International Secondary Department (ISD) Exhibitions

During the past week we have had the opportunity and pleasure to stage two exceptional exhibitions.

In the MYP program our Grade 10 students held their Personal Project exhibition. The Personal Project is a key element of the final year of the MYP and gives the students the opportunity to share their passions for non-curriculum activities.

Meanwhile, in Grade 12 our IB Diploma Visual Arts students have curated their Art Exhibition which is an assessed part of the Visual Arts course. In both instances the exhibitions highlighted the strengths of the MYP and DP programmes, and most importantly allowed our students a real chance to shine.

Well done, Grade 10 and 12 students.

04Secondary Bilingual Department (SBD) Grade 11- Current Events and Social Inquiry

Understanding and inquiring about current events can allow students to open their minds and their views of the future. Studying current events has strong curricular connections with the MOE 108 curriculum guidelines.

SBD grade 11 students use multiple learning skills to inquire about these current events. Students also discussed and created informational posters with their classmates.

You are welcome to stop by the SBD corridor to browse the posters, and share your opinions with our grade 11 students.

05VEX V5 Activities Begins

This week we look at our grade 9-12 students who are using the new Vex V5 robotics system as part of our new semester activity programme. These high school aged students program their robots to perform a range of tasks including moving objects around an obstacle course, automated driving from the start to finish and even racing each other’s robots to find the fastest! Using these skills students will represent I-Shou at robotics competitions island-wide.
