義大焦點 IN FOCUS Week 19

01Chinese Culture Day

02Designing Houses with the K2 Class

As we near the end of the first semester, each homeroom class at the ISIP is finishing up their second Unit of Inquiry with some engaging activities. The K2 class has been learning about homes from around the world. Through student inquiry the class has been learning what makes homes in different countries unique, and what types of material and design makes a home strong.

Students were challenged by their teachers to build a strong home using supplies from around the school. They connected this challenge to the story of the Three Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf. Students needed to build homes that could withstand the wind of a blow dryer. Students worked in small groups to design, build, and test their homes.

This is a meaningful way for students to make cross-curricular connections as they need to use their knowledge of materials and the process of design to build the strongest home possible.

Great job, K2’s!

03Primary Department Christmas Caring Drive Success!

This year's fifth grade community action - Christmas Caring Drive was very successful! They collaborated to raise items needed for 0-12 year-old disadvantaged children of the Taiwan Love and Hope Care Association, including: children's clothes, socks, laundry detergent, wet wipes, diapers, floor mats and dining bowls.

The Primary Department values the caring attitudes and actions of the parent and school community in supporting Taiwanese children. We feel grateful to participate in action that may allow these children to feel love and care from their community.

We would like to thank the Grade 5 team and all I-Shou community members for their support of this event!

04Semester Exam Week in the International Secondary Department (ISD)

This week in the ISD, students from all grade levels are working hard on their summative assessments, giving their best right up until the end of the semester.

Special congratulations and best wishes to our Grade 12 Diploma students who are writing full DP exam papers in many courses, as they prepare for the May IB Diploma official exam session!

05Review Week for the Secondary Bilingual Department

After a restful long weekend, students in the Secondary Bilingual Department were full of energy with the wrap-up sessions before the last term exam of the semester.

Within the intensive reviewing schedule, our teachers worked to maintain the hands-on activities in their classes in support of student learning.

Following the mock exams from the previous week, grade 9 students used the molecular model to review molecular structures and properties. Students were clearly engaged and focused during the process.

06Poetry and Story Handmade Books Demonstrate the Creativity of Third Grade Students

In the third grade Chinese class, the summative assessment for the unit "Art Forms" involves creating a creative handmade book.

This week students chose their own poetic or idiomatic story to create, and to first organize their ideas on a writing sheet. They then completed each paragraph according to the paragraph structure.

Thereafter they added a cover, content, author's words, a back cover, and matched the illustrations and decorations thus completing their unique creative handmade book.
