義大焦點 IN FOCUS WEEK 14

01The NK Food Exploration

The NK class is currently exploring the topic of food. As they are the youngest age-level in the preschool there certainly is a lot of new foods to smell, see, and taste. The NK teachers have been enjoying working with the students to make some delicious snacks for the students to try. Each week they work together to cut, cook, and prepare a meal for the students to enjoy.

This week the students enjoyed learning about the way popcorn is made. Students were amazed to see the popping of the corn and how it can turn into a delicious meal. After popping, the students enjoyed drizzling caramel sauce onto the kernels.

Previously the students worked together to make sushi in the shapes of cute faces, fruit pudding, and round sweet potato balls. Students really love making and also tasting their creative creations!

02The Start of a Greener Future!

The first student eco-committee meeting, made up of Primary students from all grades, buzzed with excitement as enthusiastic young minds shared ideas and aspirations for a greener school. Discussions ranged from recycling initiatives to energy reduction, leaving everyone inspired and motivated. Students created an essential agreement based on respect for each other and the Earth. Students even brainstormed some committee names and will vote on their favourite next meeting!

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to take concrete actions and set achievable goals, fueling anticipation for the next meeting as the students eagerly aimed to turn their eco-visions into reality.

03ISD IB Diploma Programme Visual Arts Field Trip

The Grade 11 students had a very productive and fulfilling trip as they looked at artworks from differing cultural contexts dating back over 400 years at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts.

The students were able to make connections between the individual themes that they are exploring in their own studio practices and the themes of the artworks being displayed. The students also learned a great deal in relation to the curation and organization of exhibits, and it is hoped that they will put into practice some of these learnings when the time comes to display their finished artworks in their DP Final Exhibition.

04Grade 11 Research Presentations in Secondary Bilingual Department (SBD) History Class

The 11th grade students of the SBD have selected several World War II events for in-depth research in their History course. The students have compiled the collected data and presented their research findings orally.

Each student also created a carefully crafted poster that was displayed in the third-floor lobby at the main campus, allowing the teachers and students to vote.

It was a great learning experience for the students!

05Group Collaboration, Inquiry and Critical Thinking, Delve into the World of Literary Classics

Students engaged in group discussion to comprehend the literary classic "The Secret Garden." Through interactive and collaborative efforts, they explored the themes, characters, and plot, collectively uncovering its profound meanings. This activity enhances reading comprehension and fosters critical thinking skills.
