義大焦點 IN FOCUS WEEK 14

01I-Shou International Preschool (ISIP) Transdisciplinary Learning

Every day across the school there are plenty of great examples of transdisciplinary learning happening inside the classrooms. From NK to K2 there are a variety of age appropriate learning experiences happening which allow students to make connections between the different subjects they are learning about.

A wonderful example of this transdisciplinary learning is happening inside the K1 classroom as they are learning about their feelings and emotions. Students combined science and SEL topics by painting colour monsters. They first made connections between different colours and emotions that they feel each day. Then, students explored the way in which different colours can be combined to create new colours. Students choose colours to mix, then painted their colour monsters. Each day students place their monster inside the emotion which they are feeling that particular day. Students are understanding that it is normal and okay to experience different emotions and how to properly show them to their peers.

02Primary Students’ Demonstrations of Learning

Students have been in the process of showcasing their learning and taking action as a culmination of Unit 2.

Students are given agency to explore concepts within their units and are using the information gained during their inquiry to demonstrate what they have learned and their process of learning.

Students demonstrate learning in various areas such as knowledge and understanding, thinking, and application. They also show their use of relevant ATL skills within their unit: research, communication, self-management, social and thinking.

Students will then reflect on their learning, the skills they have improved, and ways they can use their learning in daily life.

03ISD Student Volunteer at FuAn Elementary School

International Secondary Department InterAct Club students recently led a successful CAS project! A group of 29 students and 3 teachers traveled to Fu An Elementary school for a day of fun and learning.

The I-Shou student volunteers lead team icebreakers, science experiments, and art activities. Students from the Global Issues Network club joined in to share hands-on learning about the environment. After a full day of fun, both the FuAn and I-Shou students were ready for a good night's sleep.

A special thank you to the Rotary Club of Cheng Ching Lake for supporting this InterAct event!

04Parent-Teacher Conference at the Secondary Bilingual Department

“Connecting home and school makes us a great community of learners!”

This week parent-teacher conferences were held for the Secondary Bilingual Department. Parents made appointments with different subject teachers to discuss students’ learning at school. It’s the best opportunity to connect families with school to better support our students.

Through the individualized meetings our teachers shared some student work samples or talked about the general learning situation of the students at school.

We strongly believe that it was a successful event to build a supportive learning environment for our students.

05UOI of Chinese Writing assianment: Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR

Social Responsibility (CSR) includes taking care of employees, customers, the environment and the community. Students developed their own CSR for their business. Students began with organizing their thoughts by hand drawing a mind map or creating one online, then expanding their ideas in writing.
