義大焦點 IN FOCUS WEEK 14

01Full Distance Learning Implemented at I-Shou on May 23-27 (Next Week)

A reminder for parents that a full distance Learning format is scheduled for Monday, May 23 to Friday, May 27).  Students must remain home during the entire week (five days). There will be no bus transportation or catering service available during that time. The boarding house will remain closed and will reopen for students on Sunday evening, May 29, pending further announcements from the Kaohsiung City Government.

I-Shou will return to the hybrid teaching and learning model currently in place on Monday, May 30.  At that time, the school will reopen for in-person teaching and learning with faculty and staff routinely present in the school for those parents and students who prefer to be present in classes for in-person learning. The hybrid model will again become available for parents who are understandably concerned with sending their children to school given the present circumstances.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

02Tips for Successful Distance Learning for Students

Students will find success with Distance Learning when they engage fully and interact with teachers and classmates virtually if they are fully prepared.

●      Students must choose to engage and be active learners. Students need to stay on task during the lesson.

●      Students must be communicators and let teachers know their questions or needs.

●      Students need to be on time to class and prepared with technology (headphones and charged device) and materials.

●      Students “home classroom” should allow for them to have their camera and microphone on. Headphones with a                           built-in  microphone are strongly recommended.

●      Students should ask themselves, am I giving this lesson my best effort?

03Primary Department Hybrid Learning

The Primary Department had a successful switch to Hybrid Learning, offering flexibility to families to best meet their needs. At school, students enjoyed a safe environment and care offered by an experienced team. In-person students continued their learning excited to see some classmates on Zoom from home. Students staying home were integrated into classes successfully utilizing the many tech resources I-Shou has to offer.

Although COVID-19 presents new challenges to our community, our students and teachers are amazing, and learning never stops! Thank you to our hard-working teachers expertly juggling a demanding, well-managed hybrid learning program for our students!

04Middle School Teaching and Learning Thrives in Hybrid Learning Environment

This week in the Middle School Department teachers and students have adapted with great success to our hybrid teaching and learning model, which involves some students in-school and some students at home due to COVID considerations.

Adaptability is one of the key soft-skills to develop for success in our ever-changing and interconnected world. With tech savvy and quality planning this week of hybrid learning has gone smoothly in the Middle School Department.

05International Secondary Department (ISD) Wonderful Week 14

It’s been a very productive week in the ISD. Congratulations to all of the grade 12 students who have now completed their final IBDP external exams this week. The grade 12 students have also been finishing off their CAS portfolios and having their final meetings with their supervisors. There is still some work to do in the final weeks as they head into graduation.

The grade 12 students also received additional offers from University of California at San Diego, University of Toronto, University of Melbourne and Kings College London - all of these institutions are ranked in the top 50 institutions in the world.

Elsewhere, the ISD teachers smoothly and skillfully transitioned into hybrid learning. It has been wonderful to see our team using a variety of methods to engage students both in person and online.

Well done to everyone for making this week a very successful week.

06Secondary Bilingual Department (SBD) Grade 11- The Story of Taiwanese Writers Huang Chun-ming

Huang Chun-ming is one of Taiwan’s important writers, whose work expresses his deep feelings about Taiwan.

SBD grade 11 students apply their language skills, reflection skills, and communication skills to share their feelings after reading this writer’s work. We always teach and implement these Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills in our classes.

We are proud of all SBD grade 11 students who overcame every difficulty and received a lot of positive feedback during Taiwan Culture Day this semester.
