義大焦點 IN FOCUS WEEK 13

01Pre-Assessments in the PK Class

During this time of the semester, classes at the ISIP are busy introducing their new Units, Central Ideas, and Lines of Inquiry. As part of the process of beginning a new Unit, teachers first must pre-assess what the students already know about their new theme. The PK class recently had a pre-assessment lesson to gain insight into what the students know about different kinds of animals.

Students were separated into three different groups, each focusing on a different area of how animals live. First students thought about what different animals eat and used coloured cards to organize various animals as herbivores, omnivores, or carnivores. Then, students listened to animal sounds and needed to guess which animal could make those sounds. At the final station, students stood in lines and moved to different sides of the room to indicate if they thought different types of animals came from eggs or not.

Students had a lot of fun completing these activities and the teachers gained a better understanding of the knowledge each student had about animals.

02Grade 4 Design Thinking Field Trip

Grade 4 is currently inquiring within the unit "How We Express Ourselves". They are learning what design thinking is which includes inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating a solution, and finally, evaluating. This week, they went to Pier-2 for community learning to get more ideas about design and practice.

In addition, they also shared their design concepts and preliminary product models with teachers of all grades and other departments to seek different perspectives, suggestions and feedback. They will gather suggestions from all parties to think about how to adjust and alter their design, and complete their final project.

03IBDP Exams for ISD Grade 12 Students

Our Grade 12 students are taking another major step toward graduation, with the completion of their International Baccalaureate external examinations. These exams are completed by Diploma Programme (DP) students around the world on the same date for each subject. Students who successfully meet the requirements of the DP, especially on these exams, are awarded the IB Diploma.

We are proud of our I-Shou Grade 12 students, and we are looking forward to seeing their excellent scores on these tests!

04Grade 12 Mock Interviews in the Secondary Bilingual Department

The second phase interviews for the national university application dates are approaching. Our grade 12 students in the Secondary Bilingual Department seize every chance that they can practice for the interview. This week, we invited our teachers to form a mock committee to interview the students. Our students also wore the formal clothing to mock the actual interview with the professors. Everyone put a lot of effort into preparing for the interview. After the mock interview, our teachers also coached the students on how to improved.

The Grade 12 homeroom teachers also used spare time for practice with students individually to provide customized suggestions.

We truely hope our grade 12 students can do their best in the upcoming university interviews.

05Our lovely first graders are making their own little books to express themselves in social-emotional learning

The fifth theme of our inquiry unit is how to express oneself. In our Chinese class, we combine social-emotional learning to guide first-grade students to make mini books about different emotions. Some students made small stories using cut-out newspapers, while others drew their own stories about introducing emotions.

Everyone was excited to make the mini books, it was so much fun!
