02The First I-Shou International Preschool Mini Olympics

Fostering a love of physical activity is an important aspect of our early years program. To support this goal we were happy to host the first ever ISIP Mini Olympics last week. Students from NK-K2 participated in four events which included; running, long jump, cycling, and throwing. Students tried their best to come in the top 3 of each event and receive a gold, silver, or bronze medal.

Students and teachers alike had a lot of fun during this event and we were so proud to see our students not only participating in the competition, but also demonstrating sportsmanship behaviour and encouraging their classmates to do well. After the events, students gathered at the podium for the closing ceremonies. During these ceremonies students who had won their events got to stand on the podium and receive their medals in front of their friends, teachers, and families. It was a very exciting afternoon and we look forward to next year’s event!

03Primary Department Collaborative Meeting

Wednesday afternoon, Primary Department teachers engaged in a collaborative maths meeting and planning period. The focus of this meeting was on mathematics assessment and grading. Teachers discussed departmental and grade level grading standards and best practices.

These collaborative meetings provide teachers with an open-minded and professional environment to exchange and share ideas. Each teacher shares opinions and suggestions from their grade level point of view, and works together to provide fair, clear and successful assessment in mathematics.

04International Secondary Department - Mesocosms

ISD Grade 12 students are building a mesocosm for the Ecosystems unit. Mesocosms are self-sustaining ecosystems. Students are collaborating, researching and engineering the most effective design to sustain life on its own. They will then be collecting qualitative and quantitative data throughout the month(s) to come.

05Students in the Secondary Bilingual Department Strong Performance in Contests

Alex, Benjamin, Sean and Zack participated National Reading Reflecion Writing Contest for High School Students supervised by Teacher Amy. They were awarded the

Excellence Award by the Ministry of Education in contest no. 1111010.

Our students also participated in the Mini Green House Model Building Contest held by science teachers. Students used their creativity to build the green house model and shared their innovative design ideas focusing on environmental sustainability with all teachers and students in the Secondary Bilingual Department.

06Primary Department Chinese Class

The recent formative assessments in the Grade four Chinese class included “Facts and Perspectives” and “Small Debaters”.  Our Unit Of Inquiry, political systems,  and evaluation of these two assessments are to prepare the students for their summative writing assessment: “My Opinion Of The Political System”. In addition, the students use headlines and news articles found in Mandarin Daily to distinguish between facts and opinions, and explain their rationale.
