義大焦點 IN FOCUS WEEK 11

01Taiwanese Culture Day

April 26th was Taiwanese Culture Day across the school. On this day each year we find meaningful and age-appropriate ways to celebrate Taiwan. There were many different events happening around the school from K-12.

In the preschool, students participated in four different learning stations which allowed them to experience an important aspect of Taiwanese culture. Students used dolls to put on traditional plays on a prepared stage, used bows and arrows to hunt wild pigs, decorated umbrellas in traditional Hakka style, and made jump ropes out of elastic bands.

Students love experiencing traditional Taiwanese culture through these various activities and it will allow them to begin developing a deep understanding of their country and its culture.

02Primary Department Language Talent Show

The annual Language Talent Show is always a highly anticipated event in April! Beginning in March, students will sign up for an audition and then prepare and practice to try to enter the finals! This entire process is student led.

The finals came at the end of April and the 14 performances included: Chinese and English singing, dancing, speeches, jokes, dramas and role-play, stop-motion animation and ukulele. The confident and entertaining performances of each group of students gathered a lot of applause, and the audience was blown away by the showmanship of everyone on stage. Congratulations to all the participating students and to the winners from each category.

We can’t wait until next year!

03ISD Hosted an International University Fair

The International Secondary Department hosted our first university fair since COVID-19. Our school hosted  22 American colleges and universities in the new Learning Commons in the Main Campus. Students were able to meet with a variety of colleges and universities which will help them make their university choices. Thank you to Tr. Alan, Tr. Barry, Staff Anna, Staff Beth, the offices of GAO, SAO, and ADO for working together to coordinate such a successful event.

04Grade 12 Mock Interview for SBD University Applications

After the release of the results for the first phase of university applications, Grade 12 students in the Secondary Bilingual Department not only began to organize their application materials, but also actively prepared for the second stage interviews with various universities. This week, they had a mock interview with each other to practice for the actual interviews.

They are getting ready for the next stage!
