義大焦點 IN FOCUS WEEK 10

01Earth Month in the ISIP

For the entire month of April, the ISIP students and teachers are participating in challenges to spread awareness and knowledge about our Earth and what we can do to live sustainably. This yearly tradition is always a lot of fun for students, but also extremely important as even at an early age our students have a responsibility to protect our environment and take action to ensure a healthy future for us all.

As students complete challenges, their class is awarded an Earth Point. The class with the most points at the end of the month will win a small tree for their classroom. Challenges include; sharing photos of action at home, making a craft some leaves, going on a virtual field trip, a nature scavenger hunt, planting a tree, making an earth pledge, and many more.

Students have been sending in photos of them taking action for the environment at home which is then displayed in the first floor hallway. It is great to see how much our students care about their environment!

02Primary Department Celebration of Earth

This week and next, the Primary Department joins the whole school in a celebration of Earth Day. Students have been learning about, and reviewing the Sustainable Development and Global Issues goals within daily lessons.

The Primary Department also welcomed an environmental guest speaker, Matt Inman. Matt delivered differentiated instruction and learning engagements for each grade level. These activities included nature appreciation, learning about living things, and circular economy. Grade 5 students were able to connect their learning to their PYP Exhibition projects.

We look forward to continuing our celebration of Earth next week with daily themes and student action projects.

03International Secondary Department Teachers Differentiation Workshop

The ISD teaching teachers participated in workshops about differentiation strategies during the Wednesday collaborative meeting time. Differentiation allows teachers to better meet the needs of individual students or groups of students within the classroom. Workshops were led by teachers, who shared their best-practices with the team. Workshops included: Establishing a Student Learning Profile, Implementing Student Choice, Linking Instruction and Assessment, Mini-Conferences, and Student-directed Instruction.

04SBD Students Are Preparing for a Research and Inquiry Mini Exhibition

This year, students in the Secondary Bilingual Department have a new course called 'Research and Inquiry.' It is a course that prepares students to do independent research. This semester, students focused on learning more about plastics. In the month of celebrating Earth Day, students will have a mini exhibition to share their findings. They are busy with making the presentation boards now.

Soon they will be making the presentation to the I-Shou community.

05Shining Taiwan, Dazzling Culture! Join us at the annual Taiwanese Culture Day to explore Formosa

The annual Taiwanese Culture Day is approaching, and the Chinese department is honored to present this meaningful event to the whole school community. As a bilingual school, I-Shou International School values the balanced development of local and international cultures. According to tradition, we hold "Taiwanese Culture Day" during  the second semester of each school year. This year's theme is "Pride of Taiwan."

Under the guidance of more than twenty Chinese teachers, students throughout the school will explore diverse topics, combining essay writing and presentation editing with technology tools, and enthusiastically participating in Mandarin classes. Through hands-on activities, students can gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan's various proud achievements, enhancing their sense of social and cultural identity, and promoting communication among students.

This year, we have added new activities, inviting ten foreign teachers who will be interviewed and a video produced about their perspectives on Taiwan. In addition, four teams of foreign teachers will participate in an adventure game, joining students from throughout the school in getting to know the real Pride of Taiwan.
