義大焦點 IN FOCUS Week 1

01The 2022-23 school “Year of Being Reflective” has begun with lots of excitement and enthusiasm!

Our new Principal Roger Lee, International Headmaster Matt Lennon, Directors, faculty, and staff have warmly welcomed students as we join together with you, our parents, in the cooperative education of our children this year.

We look forward to assisting that each and every I-Shou student to achieve success in our superior academic and activities programs during the school year ahead.  Following weeks of planning and preparation, we seek to promote the highest standards of teaching and learning across every school department and classrooms.

We urge parents to maintain close contact with teachers and directors and to take full advantage of the school’s routine communications channels such as this In-Focus publication, our bi-monthly Inquirer publication, the school’s Facebook page, and other correspondence from the school.

We look forward to a fabulous school year at I-Shou International School!

02New Principal Welcomes Students

After nearly a month of preparation for the curriculum, meetings and workshops before the new school year, I-Shou faculty welcome the students back to the school with excitement and anticipation.

In the opening ceremony, as the new school Principal, I encouraged students with four key points: “safety”, “health”, “respect” and “care.”

The theme this year is “Year of Being Reflective.” Students are expected to use their wisdom and courage to learn and reflect under the guidance of teachers, so that they can accumulate energy in the present and prepare for the future.

03High Quality Teaching and Learning at I-Shou International School

In my new role as International Headmaster I have the privilege and opportunity to observe lessons on a day to day basis across the different departments in the school. Throughout orientation one of our main and continued focusses has been the importance of high quality teaching and learning and ensuring that it is happening at all times.

While high-quality learning may look very different from subject to subject, across the school the high expectations are the same - well-planned, engaging lessons that are inquiry based and expect students to be happy, active learners throughout.

In my lesson walk-throughs this week,  I am pleased to report I have seen this in abundance be it in a Grade 2 English class or a Grade 12 Art class.

It has been a super first week and the students and teachers are clearly enjoying being back together in school!

04Reflecting Back and Looking Ahead

At I-Shou International Preschool (ISIP) we are both welcoming the start of the 2022-23 academic “Year of Being Reflective”, and celebrating the completion of a highly successful summer camp program.

Over the summer, many students enjoyed our Science and Art themed camps. These were full of meaningful and fun learning experiences which prepare students for their new challenges as they move on to the next grade level.

It has been an exciting first week of school as we welcome many new students and families to our community here at the ISIP. We know that this will be a year full of growth for both students and faculty as we look to find ways of highlighting our individual strengths and reflecting on potential areas for growth. Seeing the rapid growth of our young students is our biggest joy and we can’t wait to see our students thrive and develop in our Early Years programme.

05First Week Community Building in the Primary Department

Welcome back Primary Department!

All of our students and teachers have returned to school in person and the classrooms are buzzing with excitement!

Community and team building activities throughout the week have laid the foundation for a positive, collaborative learning environment within each classroom. Teachers and students are building their relationships and daily routines during Morning Meetings, and having fun in the process.

We welcome everyone back and wish you a wonderful and successful “Year of Being Reflective”!

06Exciting Start to the 2022-2023 School Year in the International Secondary Department!

Welcome to the new school year!

We are so happy to welcome our students back to campus for the start of this new year. This is a big year for the International Secondary Department (ISD), as it is restructured and Grades seven and eight join.  There is also a new director, Dr. Patrick Miller, and many new faculty members. As we enter the “Year of Being Reflective”, we will be reflecting on all the things that make the ISD such a wonderful place and also seeking areas in which we can make it even better.

07Energetic First Week in the Secondary Bilingual Department (SBD)!

Students finally come back to campus after almost four months. The SBD welcomed new students and Grades 7-8 in joining our learning community. A STEM focused curriculum will be implemented in the SBD in Grades 7 to 12 starting from 2022-23. Our teachers and students start to build a foundation for learning in their first classes. Students were also engaged in various learning activities during Week 1.

We look forward to more exciting learning experiences in the coming weeks!

08Educational Technology at I-Shou International School

Hello I-Shou Community! My name is Julia Romeril and I am the new Director of the Educational Technology Office. We’ve had a great start to the semester, with more still to come. We made lots of changes over the summer and we are already seeing the results. We refurbished the technology in primary classrooms, purchased robotics kits for students G1-12. New laser cutters have come in and construction has begun on the Media and Design Computer Lab. Teachers and students have already been stopping by the Imaginarium to get projects underway and we are looking forward to opening the makerspace at lunchtimes again this year for students.

This marks the first year of the 2022-2027 Technology Plan in which we will build on the work done in the last five year to strengthen our foundations and create a new launch point for teaching, learning, and technology in the school.
