義大焦點 IN FOCUS Week 1

01A Great Start to the New Semester

The new Lunar year and academic semester are both off to a great start! Over the last two weeks the ISIP has been hosting our Winter Camp program. This was a huge success and students got to participate in fun activities and complete crafts themed around the Lunar New Year. We hope everyone had a safe and fun New Year break.

This week we were so happy to welcome back our returning students and some new students as well as we kick off the second semester. During this first week we take time to make sure all students are refreshed and feel comfortable being back in their daily school routines. Homeroom classes are ready to jump into their next Units of Inquiry and it is sure to be a meaningful semester ahead.

02Semester II Begins in the Primary Department

The Primary Department excitedly welcomed everyone back this week after recharging during the winter vacation! From the energetic and smiling faces of every student in the first week of school, we can see that everyone is looking forward to returning to campus to start their semester 2 learning journey. Students and teachers reconnected with each other and eagerly awaited the arrival of their friends and classmates. In the classroom, each student enthusiastically shared what they experienced during winter vacation, including a lot of travel! Let's celebrate a successful start to semester II, and continue to look forward to the progress and development of teaching and learning in the coming semester!

03Middle Years Programme Personal Project Fair

During the exhibition on Friday, February 17, grade 10 students showed off the various products they created, from artwork, soaps, and clothings to a Mars rover!

The Grade 10 Personal Project is the culmination of the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills our students have learned throughout the MYP curriculum. Students have complete agency over what they want to create and learn, and what success looks like. Along the way, they document the process and reflect on their learning.

Congratulations to Grade 10 for your hard work!

043D Printing in the Secondary Bilingual Department

Over the past few school weeks (before and after Chinese New Year holiday) students in SBD 10th, 11th, and 12th grade participated in a transdisciplinary study with 3D printing. Using a transdisciplinary approach means that students are able to connect and apply knowledge and skills across multiple disciplines or subjects; in this case, English and technology (specifically 3D printing).

By engaging in this project, students had the opportunity to develop a range of skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication, as well as gain a deeper understanding of the potential applications of 3D printing technology.

Incorporating a transdisciplinary approach to teaching can help students make connections between different subjects and apply their learning in real-world contexts which can help to deepen their understanding and engage them in meaningful and relevant learning experiences.

05Enjoying Reading and Making Learning Even Better With the AI Chinese Adaptive Reading Program

The reading performance and implementation reports for the first semester of the 2022 academic year have been released. With the dedicated support of the Chinese teachers throughout the school, students from grade 2 to grade 10 at IIS have made good use of the Smart Reading system, which utilizes AI big data and individualized grading designs. This has effectively enriched their Chinese reading abilities and improved their overall reading skills.

This week, those who received the class award and grade award were publicly reconized during the school assemblies.

Congratulations to all the students who received these awards!
